Main Character - Statamic website for video and creative content

The creative communications agency Shomei contacted us to help one of their clients launch a new website. That client was Main Character, an agency representing a range of professional video editors.

CMS and setup

To get started quickly and give the client a simple tool for managing content, much of it video, we chose to set up a Statamic site and build a fully custom theme. That made it easier to tailor the visual experience to their needs.

Video wall

A large part of the identity is based on moving content. Because Main Character represents several different creators with different styles and portfolios, the site needed to show multiple works at the same time. The solution was a video wall placed in the background of the homepage.

Performance

Since the site contains so much moving content, performance became extremely important. Multiple videos needed to be shown without making the site feel slow, while still offering a smooth experience regardless of platform.

Development

To ensure fast delivery and efficient development, Shomei quickly created a simpler design in Figma that included both the homepage and subpages.

At the same time, a Statamic setup was started, and a theme was created once the design was ready.

To keep the editor experience simple and clean, we created three content types - Pages, Editors and Videos - which were then tied together. This makes it flexible to add and remove content, whether it is text, video or images.

The biggest development effort was building the video wall used as the background on the homepage. The challenge was to present several individual videos that appear dynamically without hurting performance too much.

We solved that with technical creativity and experience, and the result made the client, designers and our developers happy.
